Summary:
We Are Water Protectors, written by Carole Lindstrom and illustrated by Michaela Goade, was honored the the 2021 Caldecott Medal for its brilliant use of colors. A Native American child tells the story of water´s importance to the past, present, and future of her people and the planet. It begins with the community´s fight to stop the building of an oil pipeline that threatens the water source of the life and history. It goes on to show the impact that one river can have on the world. The book portrays how water connects everyone and everything, and how it is our duty to protect it from harm.
Gorgeous illustrations by Michaela Goad focus on an indegenious local community and portrays all skin tones. Her picture book is powerful and embraces the culture of Native Americans along with global health.
